On September 20th, the President of Uganda lifted another phase of COVID-19 restrictions. Entebbe International airport and land borders are now open, along with places of worship and very importantly, some schools will reopen for candidate classes on October 15th.
Schools remain closed with no signs that they will open this year. Some of the children on the Road to Hope (RTH) program, particularly the older ones, are taking this time to engage in other productive activities.
COVID-19 cases in Uganda have continued to rise steadily, and the country’s Ministry of Health is diligently updating the public. In addition to good public health messaging, they are also emphasizing contact tracing and testing to contain the virus.
At word of schools shutting down, PCAU mobilized quickly to coordinate the safe return home of children on the Road to Hope (RTH) program.
